Flying to Faro cheaper than to Stornoway
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s leader Angus Campbell said the airline serving the route offered cheaper prices to get to the Algarve than Stornoway.
More than 11,000 people have "liked" the Facebook campaign.
Loganair, which flies the islands routes for Flybe, has defended the pricing structure.
It said children, student, people visiting family members in hospital and islanders were entitled to discounted travel.
Mr Campbell said bringing down the cost of air fares was a priority of Our Islands Our Future, a project seeking more powers for Shetland, Orkney and Western Isles councils.

Scrapping UK air travel tax would boost economy
Abolishing its tax on air travel could boost Britain’s economy by 1.7 percent by 2020, British Airways and easyJet said on Wednesday, calling on the government to go beyond recent concessions on the duty.
A study by PwC, commissioned by the airlines, found scrapping air passenger duty (APD) would lift gross domestic product by about 0.5 percent in the first year and by 1.7 percent by 2020, with tax receipts from other sources more than offsetting the revenues lost from APD.
“Abolishing APD would boost the UK economy by supporting tourism, investment and business activity,” said easyJet chief executive Carolyn McCall in a statement. “There is a real opportunity with this for the UK to be more competitive.”
Last month, the airlines began to benefit from a government concession on APD with the abolition of the charge for children under 12, with plans from next year to get rid of it for all under-16s.
The calls for the government to go further and scrap the levy entirely come ahead of finance minister George Osborne’s budget in July, his first since a new government was elected in May, and at a time when Britain faces the prospect of different APD regimes within its borders.

Won’t sell tickets of Lufthansa, say travel agents
Indian travel agents are up in arms at Lufthansa group''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s (LHG) move to impose an additional cess of $18 (almost Rs 1,200) from September 1 on each ticket that is not purchased directly from the airline but through agents or portals. Several travel agents are planning to boycott selling tickets of LHG airlines that include, apart from the German behemoth, Austrian, Swiss and Brussels Airlines.
"Our managing committee is meeting this week to discuss the fallout of the Lufthansa move, which is very harsh on travel agents. We are getting calls from a large number of agents," said Travel Agents Association of India president Sunil Kumar.
The Lufthansa move has caught the fancy of some Indian full-service carriers (FSC) who pay about $5-6 as global distribution system (GDS) charge for each ticket sold by travel agents and portals. India has two FSCs — Air India and Jet Airways — and a startup FSC, Tata-Singapore Airlines JV Vistara. Lufthansa move is to recover this cost from flyers.
