Itinerary for Jodhpur

Rating :
''Ideal number of days: 2 if you want to club other Rajasthani cities like Jaisalmer in the same trip.''

To get a complete feel of the city : Try and stay for 3 nights! Forts, temples, other historical monuments, shopping, typical Rajasthani food, parks and spas - Jodhpur has a lot of offer and is a complete family holiday.

Considering you plan a 2 day trip : On Day 1: You can perhaps begin your day in the morning with a visit to Mehrangarh Fort - Well, it is the largest fort in Rajasthan and THE reason why tourists flock the city. Its reddish-brown appearance in the backdrop of the hills is just captivating. What’s more – you can get an enchanting view of the city from the top of the fort.
Its architecture is mind boggling – the wall used in it actually works as air-con and converts hot air into cool.
If you plan a visit in the summers, make sure you visit Mehrangarh fort early in the morning to beat the heat. When you come down from it, Jaswant Thada is on your left. It is an architectural landmark and a must do.
Ideally you should be able to do the fort in about 2 hours. Try for a good guide at the entrance.
After you are done, you can visit some of the markets and the Clock Tower in the old city. You can pick up knick-knacks – go in for traditional Rajasthani curios, the colour combinations of the items that you get are just fascinating.
For lunch, you can get into any of the restaurants in the Old Town! Must try traditional Rajasthani cuisine. For veggies, dal bati churma is a must try. Feast on laal maas if you are a non vegetarian.
Post lunch, you can do Mandore Garden. If you think the day so far has been hectic, this is one place where you can completely relax and unwind.
Pl note: If you want to start your day with shopping and strolling in the city, you can do Mehrangarh Fort in the evening. In that case, try and see the sunset here. The view, needless to mention, is to die for!
All this will take almost your entire day. So in the evening, you can catch up on a few drinks and proceed for dinner.

You Itinerary on Day 2 : Start your day with a hearty Rajasthani breakfast since you are in a complete holiday mood.
Post breakfast, take a ride on TukTuk and proceed to Umaid Bhawan Palace. You can visit a few gardens and the museum here. Since you are done with most of the sightseeing, you can do some soul searching here.
You can also indulge in some shopping in Shastri Nagar – Here you will find some of the most impressive mansions. Just take a stroll here to get a feel of the heart of Rajasthan. After lunch, take a tuk tuk and head to Kaylana Lake to see the sunset.
In the evening, head back to Shastri Circle for dinner. There are lots of activities around that will keep you entertainment.

Travel Tips : Bargain very well when you go for shopping. Salesmen typically will horde you to sell their products – they may also get a little over the top. If you are not interested in buying, you can just walk away. There is no point in getting angry with them.
Don’t miss out on street food – make sure you try some chaat. There are plenty of Chaat Shops in city, you can try any of them.
