Spell-Binding Niagara Falls: A Must In Bucket List

''Canadian side gives the best view of the falls and a boat ride to the bottom a heavenly experience''

As a child, I always fantacised of these majestic falls and had seen them only in postcards and documentaries. It was only in 2008 when on an official visit to Canada, I got a chance to visit these falls. Believe me, visiting Niagara and viewing it in person was indeed a dream come true. It’s an experience that has got imprinted in my memories for life and would surely want to do again before I die.

LOCATION : The falls lie on the international border of Canada touching the Unites States of America. It is in the Ontario province of Canada.

WHY GO THE DISTANCE : If looking forward to thrilling experiences and memories to cherish for lifetime, do visit these gigantic falls. One just won't stop gazing in awe at the jaw-dropping beauty of this wonder. It is indeed rare to find such a breath-taking and majestic beauty elsewhere. These powerful and massive falls are on the Niagara River and its views are free and accessible. However, one has to shell out bucks to get closer to the falls via boat. Niagara Falls is famous for its colorful rainbows that shine out of the mist.

The riverside walks and parks offer great views of the Niagara, which is the collective name for three waterfalls - the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie mostly on the Canadian side and the American Falls entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side separated by Luna Island.

From the Canadian side, floodlights illuminate both sides of the falls for several hours even after dark in summers and reflect rainbow colours on the falls. The Queen Victoria Park near the falls too offer splendid views of both the American and Horseshoe Falls. There are two casinos on the Canadian side - the Niagara Falls View Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.

Niagara Falls can be seen from many different vantage points including Maid of the Mist boat ride, Journey To The Falls and the Niagara SkyWheel. One can also book tour packages at the location to get a taste of all the attractions.

Nothing gets one closer to the falls than this boat ride that is available from both the American and Canadian sides. It goes around the bottom of the falls and when closer one can feel mist rising from the falls on to the face. Try spotting a rainbow too when near it. When near the falls, there comes a point when the pressure is so high that it starts pushing away the boat. Try looking up the falls as they seem to be lost in the mist. Plastic coats are handed out before onset of the boat ride to ensure one doesn't get wet.

Soar 175 feet above the falls for the most spectacular view you'll ever experience.

It gives a chance to stand below the falls.

Other attractions around the falls include Aquarium of Niagara, Niagara Adventure Theater and Niagara Scenic Trolley.

BEST TIME : Most traffic is seen in summers when falls look attractive both in daytime and evenings. In winters, white caps can be seen on the rapids thus giving it look of a wonderland. Springs are a good time too with parks around enhancing the beauty with lovely flowers and colours.
