''Looking forward to a ski holiday? Go Kufri in Feb when the annual winter sports festival is held''

LOCATION : Kufri is a small hill station located in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. It is about 370 kms from Delhi and can be easily done on an extended weekend.

WHY GO THE DISTANCE : This sprawling hill station set amongst the picturesque Shivalik range and Shimla hills is popular with tourists especially in winters, when the place offers too many fun activities. Beauty of surrounding mountains and lush pine forests enhances in winters when the place is covered in snow. Also known as ski resort of Himachal Pradesh, Kufri offers some of the best skiing locations to adventure seekers. Different packages are available for both amateurs and expert skiers, to make skiing fun more enjoyable in Kufri's snow-covered slopes. The hill station is also known for its trekking and hiking routes and is dawned with plethora of other attractions.

ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES : Mahasu Ridge: Just above Kufri is this slope famous for skiing. Many travellers are seen flocking this place for skiing especially in February when the winters sports festival is on. Here courses too are organised by the Himachal Tourism for the tourists to learn skiing.

Winter Sports Festival: Is organised by the travel & tourism department of Himachal Pradesh in the month of February. Skiing competition is organised during this festival, which see participation from enthusiast skiers from around the world.

Horse/Yak Safari: One of the best ways to see the place and explore its beauty passing through exuberantly green forests, mighty mountains and gushing water streams.

ATTRACTIONS : Kufer Pond: The main attraction of the town is the pond called as 'Kufer', from which the town got its name.

Mahasu Peak: Hike through thick forests around Kufri to reach the Mahasu Peak, the highest peak in Kufri, or get onto a horse/mule to do the same. In monsoons hiking may be cumbersome as the path may become way too muddy. Once on top, get photos clicked with yaks cowboy style for Rs 30-50 bucks per click depending on the season rush. Also, there’s Nag Temple and an amusement park Kufri Fun World on top, where one can go karting and skiing.

Indira Tourist Park: The park provides some of the best panoramic view of the locations around.

Himalayan Nature Park: Is known for striking view of the Himalayas. Hike up this park and get to see some of the animals that live in the polar regions. A vast collection of migratory birds can also be sighted inside.

GETTING THERE : By Air: There are no direct flights or trains or buses between New Delhi to Kufri. The nearest airport is at Jubbarhatti near Shimla or the Chandigarh airport.

By Road:
You can reach Kufri from Shimla in about 40 mins by road. Board a Himachal Tourism (HPTDC) bus from New Delhi to Shimla and then hire a cab to go further

BEST TIME : February is the month when annual winter sports festival is organised. However, skiing sport is available even period between November and February. One can also visit the place in the period between April and June, to enjoy nature amidst salubrious weather.
