Krabi: Home To Majestic Limestone Cliffs

''Island-hopping in turquoise blue waters and lip-smacking thai street food are a must do''

LOCATION : Krabi is a town at the mouth of Krabi river on the west coast of southern Thailand.

BEST TIME : January is a great time to visit Krabi that enjoys a tropical climate. If can’t make it in January, period between November to April is also ideal to visit this place.

GETTING THERE : Krabi is well connected by air. Flights on Delhi-Krabi route operate on a regular basis.

THINGS TO DO : • Go sea kayaking, diving, rock climbing, snorkeling, jungle trekking, cooking, elephant trekking, white water rafting and quad biking at Railay beach.
• Bird-watching tours in mangroves too are organised here.
• Island tours are very common in Krabi. Indulge in island-hopping (one island to another) by speed boat. One can choose a 4 Island tour to Phi Phi Island. Poda Island is one of the main islands, known for its sandy beaches.
• Drive to the Emerald Pool (a park cum pool) from Krabi to experience breath-taking beauty and tranquility.
• Must visit is the night market located in middle of the town for variety in food from oysters to coconut ice-creams. Try some of the sticky rice sweets too. Also, a good place to wander around.
• Go for an elephant ride through the jungles and feed them with pineapple and water towards the end.
• Tiger Cave Temple is quite a walk but worth a visit for the views that one gets from top. One has to climb up about 1,200 steps to reach the temple. So, make sure to carry sufficient liquids.
• Get to see wide array of wildlife at Khao Phanom Bencha National Park.
• White-water rafting, too, is available at Phang Nga Province, a few kms from Krabi, between June and November.
• If adventurous, opt for Jungle trekking in trails such as Khao Phanom Bencha and Kao Pra Bang Khram.
• For some awesome panoramic views, go for an aerial sightseeing tour.

FOOD : Seafood is the obvious choice when holidaying by the sea. There are many good restaurants along the beaches, which are high-priced compared with regular restaurants in the town. If you want to try hands on some real authentic thai food, consult locals here. Try Khanom Jean for breakfast, which is a yellow sauce served with white rice noodles and a plate of fresh salad and herb leaves. Markets in Ao Nang, Ao Nam Mao and Klong Haeng are good to shop fruits, vegetables, clothes and souvenirs. The Chao Fah night market too offers large choice of cuisines varying from Thai-style fast food, various seafood dishes besides Chinese food. Try steamed stuff buns and pancakes at local vans here.
