Ranikhet, literally known as queen’s meadows, is a cantonment town and attracts a large number of tourists every year owing to its majestic charm and spell-binding beauty. Natural treks, amazing flora and awesome views make this place an ideal destination for visitors. This hill station is, however, not as crowded as other popular hill stations even during peak seasons, and is a prefect retreat for peacefulness and calmness. The place is surrounded by thick pine, oak and deodar trees, which enhances the alluring beauty of this town. It is also home to a number of ancient temples and gives a closer and an enchanting view of the snow-clad Himalayas.

LOCATION : Ranikhet is a hill station and cantonment town in Almora district of Uttarakhand.

BEST TIME : Heavy snowfall occurs here during the months of December, January and February, ideal for those who love snow. For others, summer and spring would be the best times.

GETTING THERE : It is located at a distance of about 340kms from Delhi and is well connected by road and rail. The nearest railway station is Kathgodam, which is at a distance of approx 115 km from Ranikhet. Pantnagar Airport is the nearest airport.

SIGHTSEEING : GOLF COURSE
Ranikhet has one of the highest golf courses in Asia. About 5 kms from the town, its green meadows are awe-inspiring.

CHAUBATIA GARDENS
About 10kms from Ranikhet and is known for apple orchards and flora. Spectacular views of the mighty Himalayas can be captured from here. Also, take back home fresh juices and honey. A research laboratory, too, is situated within the premises.

ST BRIDGET CHURCH
A very old church in the town.

TARIKHET
Houses one of the famous ancient temple of Golu Devta and the well-known Gandhi Kuti, where Mahatma Gandhi stayed for a long time during his struggle for freedom. Tarikhet is about 8kms from the town.

RANI JHEEL
A small artificial lake built by the cantonment board of Ranikhet.

MAJKHALI
A picnic spot on Ranikhet-Almore route. Get a closer view of the Himalays from here.

JHULA DEVI TEMPLE
About 8 kms from the town, this temple is dedicated to goddess Durga and holds a great significance among Hindu devotees. Numerous bells can be seen hung in the temple that are known for granting wishes on being ringed.

NANDA DEVI MELA RANIKHET
A fair held at Nanda Devi Temple every year in September in the honour of Goddess Nanda Devi and Sunanda Devi.

KATARMAL (SUN TEMPLE)
Located about 25 kms from the town, this ancient temple is over 800 years old and is frequented by tourists for its sculpture. It’s now maintained by Archaeological Survey of India.

BHALU DAM OR BALUDHAM
A small artificial lake with placid surroundings, which gives enchanting views of the Himalayas.

KUMAON REGIMENTAL CENTRE MUSEUM
Built in 1974, the museum showcases history of Kumaon and Garhwal regiments. The memorial here is a symbol of sacrifice made by native soldiers for the country.

BINSAR MAHADEV
Located about 15kms from the town, this is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its surroundings comprise fresh water springs and cedar forests.
