''Spend a full day amidst the lush green meadows at India's own Switzerland''

Looking at a quick weekend break away from the mad rush of your city? Go Khajjiar – the mini Switzerland of India. This hill station bears topographical resemblance with Switzerland, hence the title. It was on 7 July 1992 that Mr Willy T Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by christening it "Mini Switzerland".

LOCATION : Khajjiar is a small hill station in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh.

Khajjiar is situated at the base of the Dauladhar mountain range and is surrounded by dense deodar forests. If peace is what you are seeking, make a short trip just before the beginning of the peak tourist season in summer and enjoy mother nature at her best. Nothing gives more peace than just lying on those green pastures away from the daily mundane work life.
The place is a full holiday package - encompassing lush green meadows, grazing cattle, serene lakes and panoramic views of surrounding mountains. Go solo or in a group, either way you are going to love the place.
With family too, the place is fun throughout the season. Your kids would love the place too as they will have ample of fun stuff to do. A few eating joints have been placed at one end to keep the tourists interest going. The rest portion has been left untouched.

Just sit by the KHAJJIAR LAKE and admire the surrounding beauty. The lake is set in a huge grassy landscape, with evergreen cedar trees covering it from all sides. It is named after Khajji Nag, the deity in the temple nearby. Over the years, the lake has shrunk in size.

KHAJJI NAG temple is a 12th century temple located at a little distance from the Khajjiar Lake. In the mandapa of the temple one can see the images of the Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas hanging from the roof of the circumambulatory path. This temple is dedicated to snake (Naga) worship and there are some snake idols inside.

Those with an adventure bent of mind can indulge in horse riding, zorbing and even paragliding. The paragliding activity would cost you somewhere around Rs 2,500-3,000.

Go trekking and hiking at KALATOP WILDLIFE SANCTUARY and appreciate the beauty of nature. The sanctuary, located about 12kms from Khajjiar, lies in the path of the Ravi River, and is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests. If you’re lucky, you may come across leopards and Himalayan bears. Jungle safari is another key feature at the century. Inside the sanctuary, there are a couple of rest houses that offer decent accommodation.

Go for an easy 3.5 km trek from Khajjiar to Dainkund. This trek with a well-defined trail and moderate ascent is an excellent trek for beginners and children.
Photography opportunities are no less. Pose with rabbits for just 20 bucks and take back home some beautiful memories.

There are a decent number of food joints serving snacks and food at Khajjiar. However, don’t expect elaborate options in food.

There are a number of options to stay in and around Khajjiar.
