''Be ready to encounter charming forests, small villages and scenic landscapes throughout the trail!''

LOCATION : Mandi is a major city and a municipal council in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at a distance of about 153 kilometres from Shimla and about 430kms from Delhi.

This pristine lake is also house to the famous three storied pagoda-like temple dedicated to the sage Prashar, who is believed to have meditated here. The temple is believed to have come up in the 13th century and legend has it was built by a baby from a single tree.

In winters, landscapes surrounding the blue waters wear a white blanket owing to the heavy snowfall in the location and overlook the fast flowing River Beas.

The trek for the lake starts from Baggi Village, which is at a distance of about 26 km from Mandi. If you hesitate walking up the distance, drive up the road that goes up to half a km from Prashar Lake. The road, however, is mostly in a bad shape and the situation worsens in monsoons. It is blocked in the months of January and February owing to heavy snowfall. Best is to cross-check with locals before starting.

For a more stunning view of the lake, you want to trek to Tunga Mata temple, which is a steep walk of about 12kms above the lake. Throughout the trek, you also get a picturesque view of the surrounding Dhauladhar, Pir Pinjal and Kinnaur mountain ranges.

A number of Himachal government buses including Volvo ply at regular intervals for Mandi, Himachal from Himachal Bhawan, Delhi. Any bus going to Kullu or Manali will go via Mandi. From Delhi, it would be about 10-12 hours journey.
